Navigating Faith Transition and Religious Trauma
The experience of questioning or leaving a high-demand religion, like the LDS faith, is not simply a change in belief—it is a profound, life-altering trauma that impacts your entire identity, nervous system, and relational world.
When the foundations of your life crumble, you don't just need someone to listen; you need a therapist who understands the specific framework of grief, shame, and fear you are working through.
Deconstruction & Reconstruction: Beyond Belief
My practice specializes in guiding clients through the three core components of this journey:
Healing Religious Trauma (Deconstruction): We use EMDR and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) frameworks to process the high-shame experiences, emotional abuse, and complex PTSD embedded in rigid systems. The goal is to separate your identity from the organization, addressing the emotional reactivity and "sinner vs. saint" dynamic that leads to constant inner conflict.
Somatic & Nervous System Repair: Since religious trauma is held in the body (manifesting as anxiety, sexual dysfunction, or dissociation), we integrate Polyvagal Theory and Somatic Tools to teach your nervous system how to feel safe again. We move you out of "Fight/Flight/Freeze" and back into Ventral Vagal connection, making room for pleasure and self-trust.
Authentic Identity Rebuilding (Reconstruction): We use Internal Family Systems (IFS) to listen to the "parts" of you that feel lost, angry, or abandoned. This process allows you to define your own values, establish authentic boundaries, and create a new, autonomous moral framework that supports your truest self.
If you are navigating the complex fallout of Purity Culture, high-control groups, or mixed-faith relationships, you are in the right place. I provide both the cultural literacy and the specialized clinical tools necessary to move you from crisis to genuine autonomy.
